PlayStation 5: Sony secretly releases a new console

The Digital Edition of the PlayStation 5 is replaced by Sony by a new hardware model. The new PS5 version loses significantly to weight.

PS5 Digital Edition: New console model is lighter

8 months have passed since the release of the PS5. Since the starting signal, the Next-Gen console is in short supply and will resold from Scalper to horrendous prices on platforms such as eBay and Co.. Now Sony has exchanged the digital variant of the PS5 by a new model (Source: PlayStation). In a Japanese manual, the new model designation CFI-1100B01 is found.

On page 10 of the document there is a particularly interesting entry: the new weight of the console. The revision instead of the usual 3.9 only 3.6 kilograms on the scale . Sony has donated the PS5 Digital Edition a small slimming cure. As the weight loss comes about, it is not possible to say. It is possible that Sony has made some changes to the cooling system or some components against components made of lighter material have been exchanged.

Further console upgrade: The stand is new

But not only under the hood of the console something has done. According to the new user manual Sony also has the screw that the stand is attached to the console replaced. The new model is a knurled screw that can be easily tightened by hand. Additional tool is no longer needed for this step.

Although the weight of the digital version of the PS5 falls by about 8 percent by these changes, the new model is not a PS5 slim but a normal revision of the console. For comparison: The PS4 brings about 2.8 kilograms on the scales, the PS4 Slim, however, is only 2.1 kilograms heavy and thus about 25 percent lighter than the original.

When Sony brings a slim model of the PS5 to the market is currently unknown. However, if the PlayStation Group is working on its typical rhythm, potential customers should not expect a release before 2023.
