An independent game inspired by Runescape will now be published by Jagex
Melvor Idle was an independent title, in anticipated access since the beginning 2020. He wore his inspiration Runescape on his sleeve, and this suspicion of love for the classic MMO did not go unnoticed. The game still exists, but it is no longer an independent game - Jagex itself will take care of the publication when leaving the game in November.
A reddit FAQ was made following the announcement of this decision, briefly describing the preparation of this decision and what it will mean for the game and its fans. According to the various answers, the original developer of the game will keep a total creative control over the project and will spend a lot of time (this movement has been in preparation for 8 months) to ask as many questions as possible about the future of the game. Control even extends to microtransactions, in case someone is curious to know how much this total control was actually complete .
Melvor Idle players have been receptive enough to the news. The only question remained unanswered was So, what is Jagex wins here, exactly? And, to be honest, it s a good question. Although there has not been an official answer yet, everyone seems to have happened at the same conclusion: because Jagex think they can enjoy the success of the game. They see Runescape s audience as people who appreciate a game Runescape type inactive, and attaching their name to the project, they can reframe a new massive public that may not have known the game otherwise. It is an agreement that apparently everyone benefits, including players.
Melvor Idle is available on Steam and on the game s website, and according to the noise of things, it s the kind of game that any Runscape fan can appreciate - even if you are too busy to solve things in the main experience of Runescape.
